Microbiome Shorts: Mood and Microbes

Microbiome Shorts: Mood and Microbes
Our moods give us important internal information which enables us to communicate our experiences with others in the world. Sometimes they can get stuck in one way of being, which can deeply impact our totality of health. Our mental health can be influenced by many factors, but in this webinar we focus specifically on what we know about the role microbes play in our moods and mental health, looking closely at the interactions between microbes, gut and brain. We also discuss the pivotal role the gut-brain axis can play in contributing to our mental wellbeing.
Objectives
  • Visiting the model of how gut microbes impact mental health through the gut/brain axis -  including metabolites, metabolic endotoxemia and vagal communication
  • How metabolic endotoxemia contributes to brain inflammation and therefore depression and anxiety
  • The role that probiotics play in modulating the gut/ brain axis
  • Lifestyle, dietary and supplemental interventions to address the gut/brain axis
