Food Immune Complexes

A look at the multitude of ways the immune system can react to food all at one snap shot in time in order to get a deeper picture of foods that are contributing to gut based inflammation.

Description

It is well recognized that inflammation is a component in many conditions, from joint paint to depression. In integrative medicine, we recognize that much of inflammation that starts in the gut does not end there. When the gut becomes inflamed, there is an increase in systemic inflammation, mediated by an increase in inflammatory mediators such as IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-alpha. By understanding a multitude of ways the immune system can react to food all at one snap shot in time, we get a deeper picture of foods that are contributing to gut based inflammation. Understanding food as a medicine is a cornerstone of any integrative or functional approach, and by being able to tailor a diet that is least inflammatory for a patient many symptoms will note improvement, and the progression of pathology is reduced.
